| | "Pink Houses" | ] |
Since the company I work for has brought our public library sister company into the fold, our yearly-or-so damaged-and-returned book sale has gotten a lot more interesting. It's still mostly kids books, but now there were a buckets of CDs, all at a quarter a pop! Today's haul:
- Devil Driver, The Last Kind Words
- John Cougar Mellencamp, Uh-Huh (reissue)
- Gladys Knight & The Pips, Love Finds Its Own Way: The Best of Gladys Knight & The Pips
- Putamayo presents: Gypsy Groove
- The Birthday Party, Hits
- Con Funk Shun, Spirit Of Love
- 'til tuesday, Voices Carry
- Les Paul & Mary Ford, All-Time Greatest Hits
- The Smithereens, From Jersey It Came! The Smithereens Anthology
- Ringo Starr, Photograph: The Very Best Of Ringo
- Suzanne Vega, Beauty & Crime
- The Hollies, Greatest Hits
- King Diamond, The Best Of King Diamond
- Adam Ant, The Essential Adam Ant
- Radney Foster, This World We Live In
- many hip people, Monsieur Gainsboug Revisited
I don't care what the hipsters say, "Pink Houses" is a brilliant song. |

| Didjits Thriller |
[Feb. 7th, 2008|12:22 am] |
Please enjoy this marvelous video.
The Didjits doing Dead Kennedys' "Police Truck", played over an Indian version of the "Thriller" video.
There can be nothing more awesome ever. |

| I could enjoy Brad Paisley |
[Feb. 3rd, 2008|11:27 pm] |
I'd never heard of Keith Urban until I saw him on Austin City Limits, and I'm glad I did. I'm now watching Brad Paisley, and I think that he may fall into that "Hey, he's good" category. |

| My X Are OK |
[Oct. 23rd, 2007|09:39 pm] |
So it seems there's a Norwegian single out there by Lene Alexandre called "My Boobs Are OK":
which was parodied by Boys On Wheels, three guys in wheelchairs with cerebral palsy, as "My Balls Are OK":
who also have a medley of parodies they call "New Wheels On The Block" (skip to 0:50, since the first song is in Finnish)
This is the one that led me to the others. It's never good when your parody songs have laugh tracks.
Here's another where the song isn't nearly as good as the title, "Making Love In The Handicap Toilet":

| The Brady Bunch Variety Horror, part II |
[Jul. 18th, 2007|11:24 pm] |
A while back I asked for what you found most horrifying about this clip:
Y'all missed what to me is the most incongruous part, considering the Bradys are America's most favorite wholesome family. At 2:28 they work in a couple of lines of "Love To Love You Baby", Donna Summer's disco orgasmathon from 1975. |

| Death Proof |
[Jun. 5th, 2007|09:43 am] |
If there's one thing Quentin Tarantino knows, it's his arcane little hits from the 50s-70s. I got the Death Proof soundtrack last night and it's 100% brilliant, modulo the unnecessary dialogue tracks that iTunes can easily skip. |

| Attention: All people who categorize CDs |
[May. 2nd, 2007|09:00 am] |
If you put genres on your iTunes, please note:
Just because a song was released in the 1980s does not mean it is "Alternative & Punk". Specifically, the Stray Cats are not "Alternative & Punk".
Thank you for your attention. |

| Damning with faint praise |
[Apr. 24th, 2007|08:58 am] |
From a review of the Magnolia soundtrack on Amazon:
Don't get me wrong, the rest of the soundtrack is fantastic too. Hell, "Dreams" is now my top inspirational song of all time, yes, past the Rocky song "Eye of the Tiger." |
